If you want a boat that expertly blends performance, capability and comfort, the new 310 Signature should be on your “must sea-trial list” for 2004. A kitchen designer can establish an ergonomic triangular work flow. An airport architect can harmonize ease of access with traffic volume (we hope). If it’s done well, this type of efficient design is more visceral than is apparent to the eye. The design team at Chaparral has created one of the most harmonious express cruisers I’ve ever boarded. If you want a boat that expertly blends performance, capability and comfort, the new 310 Signature should be on your “must sea-trial list” for 2004. The more time I spent aboard, the more I sensed that every feature had been carefully designed for function and long-term durability. Nothing on the boat has been put there simply because it’s a stylish trend. If the feature is included, it works and it’s durable. The Chaparral 310 shares a lot of design concepts with other sport cruisers in its size range, including models from builders like Sea Ray, but the 310 seemed unique to me because almost everything was in precisely the right place, from stowage compartments to grab-rails and drink-holders. I conducted the sea trial on a typical fall morning in South Florida – 86 degrees and sunny with a slight easterly breeze off the ocean. Scott Leonardo, the general manager of Fort Apache Marine in North Miami, had arranged for me to get aboard the 310. Joining me for the test was Capt. Brandon Kuhn, who eased the boat away from the dock into the Intracoastal Waterway and then motored south toward Haulover Inlet. The boat was fabulously quiet idling through the no-wake zones; I measured just 64 decibels at the helm. The 270-hp Volvo Penta 5.0 engines were barely audible, even in what was a serene setting. Although a pair of 320-hp 5.7 engines also are available, the 5.0s were a good match for the 310; they delivered a top speed of 44 mph. Steering was precise, acceleration was controlled and smooth. The Chaparral took tight turns at full throttle by simply dropping the lee rail and turning. There was no propeller cavitation, and the boat followed helm input precisely. The 310 pushed through seas smoothly, and didn’t shudder or slam when it traversed boat wakes at speed. At the helm, there’s a bench-style seat with bolsters for both the captain and a companion. Chaparral uses darker shades of fiberglass at the dash to reduce glare, and the helm itself is comprised of multiple molded pod sections for the various instrument groupings. There are removable inserts, so instruments can be easily installed and serviced. Controls and switches are visible and easy to access. The only thing that seemed a bit out of place was the VHF radio, which was positioned below the wheel where it was inconvenient to operate and see. To port of the helm is a curved seat that is either a bench for two or a chaise lounge for one. The cockpit features a wet bar to port and settee seating to starboard. The removable cockpit table is very sturdy yet surprisingly lightweight, which means it’s easier to stow. An Igloo cooler nests below the settee, where it’s both secure and easy to reach. Even the standard camper canvas package is simple to stow because it comes complete with a bag designed to help you keep things neat and organized. There are many other sensible ideas on the 310. For example, the main battery panel is located at the transom just forward of the swim platform. This way it’s easy to manage the transfer from shore power to ship’s power while you’re connecting or removing the cabling. Plus, the battery transfer switches that manage the house batteries and starting batteries are not the typical one-two-both variety. They are set up so you can’t inadvertently set them to “both,” thereby allowing the starting and house batteries to drain. On that same point, if the starting battery is low, there’s a switch at the helm that will provide extra juice from the house batteries to crank the motor. It’s the same for the head pump-out switch. It’s located top-side so that you can manage the operation in full view of the connection, averting a potentially messy situation. In the cabin, there’s plenty of light and air, thanks to three hatches and several side ports. The head compartment is to port, and it has an entry door that’s generously wide. Interestingly, the commode is located below a hinged bench seat that doubles as a convenient platform for towels, robes, etc. The space is much better utilized and more pleasing to the eye because of it. It’s a minor design element, but it’s an example of how Chaparral has thought through every inch of the boat. Forward is the galley and main salon, which has a settee that converts to a berth. At the forepeak is the “master cabin” with double berth. There’s also a mid-cabin aft that’s essentially a berth. On many boats of this type, the entrance to this area can feel claustrophobic, but on the Chaparral, it’s wide and inviting. And the sides of the berth itself are bolstered so that it could make a good play area for children. I was only on the Chaparral for a short time, but it felt as if I had been aboard for years. Maybe that’s because everything was where I expected it to be. And everything was amply proportioned and substantial. If you want style in a solidly built boat, take a long hard look at the new 310 Signature. (Jim Daly, Dember 2003). Importing a Boat to Australia We have some of the best rates for RORO-shipping to Australia in the U.S. and we serve the ports of Brisbane, Adelaide, Port Kembla, Fremantle, and Melbourne. Whether you are a repeat customer or a first-time buyer, here’s a few tips and reminders about buying, shipping, and importing boats and yachts to Australia from the U.S. Finding the right boat. Buying a boat from another country often means dealing with people that you never met or dealt with in the past. There’s tons of free classified ads and Craig’s list-type re-advertisers on the internet with deals just too good to be true. If it sounds too good, then, you’d guessed it, it probably is a scam. Do your research. Be realistic. Partner up with a Pro (like us). We suggest you deal with us. Each week we get shipping, export, and certification inquiries from some of the country’s well respected marine dealers. We work in close cooperation with country-wide brand name retailers such as Marinemax and with the brand stores of Regal, Chaparral, Monterey, Bayliner, Larson – just to mention a few. We are a fully licensed Non Vessel Operating Common Carrier by the Federal Maritime Commission and as such we operate our own in-house shipping company. We have exclusive contracts with some of the largest steamship companies in the world. As one of the rather few NVOCC’s we have the authority to buy and resell space on ocean-going cargo ships and issue our own bills of lading. What does this mean for you? As an individual? Well, by contacting us directly you are likely to save considerable time and money by dealing directly with the contract holder (as opposed to a string of middlemen). Buying a boat directly from us or through our brokerage division Boats International, Inc. is our own in-house discount boat dealership. We buy bulk trade-in’s from the big retailers but we also buy from banks and individuals as well. For the past 20+ years our focus have been to absorb distressed inventory and floor-plan boats from cash-strapped dealers and resell these locally and overseas. As we now are completing our store expansion project (September, 2011) we will be able to take on even more inventory then in the past and also have space over to showcase brokerage and consignment boats. Most of our international buyers rely on our reputation and expertise as a key player on the U.S. domestic and international boat market and they seek our help to source the boat(s) that they seek. If we do not have what they seek in stock we’ll be sure to find it through our network of dealers and banks for the right money. Whether your buying a stock boat from us or one from another dealer we are well equipped to assist you with every step from inspection to final delivery of your boat or yacht to Australia. For example we can help you or your client with: Finding a Boat or Yacht that meets (or exceeds) your requirements in terms of condition, equipment, and of course price Negotiate the Deal (including but not limited to title searches, accident reports, previous owner status, etc) Survey & Physical Inspection (we have a longstanding partnership with a number of accredited marine surveyors, mechanics, and experts in most regions of the country) Closing the Deal – we often act as intermediary for international buyers as most of our overseas clients prefer only to work with one turn-key partner Pre-shipping Logistics – once the deal is done and the boat paid for we assist in coordinating haul-outs, marina loadings, boat ramp pickups and inland U.S. land transport/trucking through our in-house logistics company Boatlogistic.com, Inc. Pre-Export Preparation – Sanitation, Fumigation, De-gassing of refrigerants. Australia has (as you probably know already) very specific and strict import restrictions for boats and vessels. The governing body is the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) which is part of the Australian Government’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Depending on the geographical location of the boat and the required preparation of the vessel we can either prepare the boat for export to Australia while underway, or we can have it completed at our marina in Pompano Beach, Florida. Australian Shipping Services Team – our Australian Shipping Services Team assist with Sanitize boats & yachts prior to port delivery – AQIS will stop all boats that are dirty and soiled to check for insect/parasite infestations Fumigation of boats and cradles according to AQIS-standard (Methyl Bromide 3.0 lbs / 1,000 cubic feet / 24 hrs) De-gassing of Air-conditioning Systems (AC) Refrigeration HVAC HFC HCFC Providing HVAC Customs Certification With our certificates our customer are NOT REQUIRED to obtain the otherwise very expensive Australian import licenses. Trailer Import Permit Assistance The Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure and Transport requires that all imported boat trailers have an Import Approval. You can read more about the approval at the Department’s website or you can download the .pdf-application “Import a Small Road Trailer” here. Import Duties and Goods and Services Tax (GST) If you’re buying a US-made boat, according to the United States-Australia Free Trade Agreement, you aren’t required to pay the 5% duty (as we’ll supply the required waiver forms). You must, however pay 10% GST on all costs associated with the purchase of the the boat, ocean freight, duty, wharf charges, customs broker fees, and destination port fees.. ISPM-15 – No Worries Mate – We Fumigate All Wooden Cradles & Provide Proof of Fumigation International Standards For Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15) is an International Phytosanitary Measure developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) that directly addresses the need to treat wood materials of a thickness greater than 6mm, used to ship products between countries. Its main purpose is to prevent the international transport and spread of disease and insects that could negatively affect plants or ecosystems. ISPM 15 affects all wood packaging material (pallets, crates, dunnages, etc.) requiring that they be debarked and then heat treated or fumigated with methyl bromide and stamped or branded,[1] with a mark of compliance. This mark of compliance is colloquially known as the “wheat stamp”. Products exempt from the ISPM 15 are made from alternative material, like paper, plastic or wood panel products (i.e. OSB, hardboard, and plywood). Customs Broker Fees & Destination Charges in Australia There’s tons of websites out there claiming to be the know-it-all for import questions concerning boats & yachts to Australia. Fortunately, we are not one of them. While we can recommend quite a few competent companies in Australia it is ultimately up to you to pick a customs partner in your home port. As is true for all facets of our business we believe that there are no shortcuts to sustained success in business (or life for that matter). That said we recommend that you seek the advice of an Australian Customs Broker who is licensed by the “Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia Inc” – CBFCA-Australia Website to inquire about recent legal and import changes pertaining to your planned import.

The cabin is also equipped with adjustable electric lights for nighttime use.

The 200 CS has a 3-panel cabin door for unsurpassed access and unparalleled ventilation and openness, which is a nice break from the conventional cave-like cuddy design found on other boats. A sturdy stainless steel latch (not plastic) allows the cabin door to be securely locked. Inside you will find a screened aluminum deck hatch for improved ventilation and two port lights that open up the interior. The cabin is also equipped with adjustable electric lights for nighttime use. The comfortable berth will accommodate two adults and a PortaPotti is standard, making the boats well suited for overnighting. A molded fiberglass liner gives the cabin a fit and finish seldom seen on a boat this size. Noteworthy standard features include bow anchor storage, in-floor ice chest, and premium foam-backed vinyl upholstery. The helm comes with a full array of backlit instruments, including an engine hour meter, offset by a beautiful woodgrain trim package. It also sports a stylish Italian steering wheel and a 12-volt plug for powering accessories.

In these accelerated times, next-generation products are introduced before the previous versions show even a hint of age. Take a spin on the new Atlantis 38 and you’ll see this first hand, and also get a sense of how boaters can reap the benefits of the trend more pleasurably these days than ever. Though the name Atlantis Yachts might not be all that familiar to you yet, the brand is actually owned by Azimut-Benetti, the seemingly omnipresent player in serious superyachts and flying-bridge cruisers that created the brand back in 2001 in order to reconnect with its roots.. The original Atlantis models were existing designs from the Gobbi shipyard, which was taken over prior to the rebranding. New designs were soon fed into the range, none of which made quite the impact of the extraordinary Verve 36, a great-looking dayboat with walkaround decks, three helm seats, two berths, plenty of horsepower, and a unique sideless hardtop that swept back over the cockpit like Jerry Lee Lewis’s mop in a headwind. It had rock ’n’ roll written all over it, and lived up to the billing. But if the Verve was a boom-time boat, the Atlantis 38 is a product of a leaner era. She is clearly intended to excite the same passions, but with the addition of a more serious, family-oriented side as well. So the cockpit is more conventional—with seats, sunbeds, and a table—and there are two cabins down below. With a dark-tinted windscreen and those orange cushions she still rocks, of course, but the volume has been turned down because the kids are in bed. Almost everywhere you look there is evidence of how much thought has gone into the 38’s design. The concertina doors to both the forward cabin and the shower compartment save space in a remarkably simple way. The tabletop needed for the (optional) saloon dinette conversion stows neatly in its own slot in the forward hanging locker. A lifting backrest section in the cockpit cushion is a small but significant addition to the comfort and versatility of the boat’s seating areas. The entire cockpit sole lifts on a hydraulic ram to reveal the engine compartment, requiring no more preparation than the removal of a small corner cushion. Whoever pulls cooking duties can work in daylight thanks to a glass panel above the galley. The helm seat has a lifting bolster so you can steer either sitting or standing up. And for in-harbor work there is a folding platform to stand on so you can stick your head through the sunroof for the best all-round view. Such examples of practical design are of course de rigueur on boats like this. Space is tight, and style is king. Compromises are compulsory—but the more elegant they are, the better. Just as important to quality of life aboard the Atlantis is the amount of stowage that has been built in, from the useful little oddments tray under a hinged lid on the port side of the cockpit to the practically sized drawers and hanging locker in the forward cabin. Not much space is wasted. These details are expensive to incorporate, and in this most cutthroat of market sectors boatbuilders will often be tempted to claw back costs in less obvious areas in the hope that they might not show up amid the smooth talking and spotlights of a boat show. Crucially, I couldn’t find any areas onboard the 38 that gave rise to concerns about construction quality. Lifting hatches and peering into hidden corners revealed nothing but carefully clipped wiring, well-run plumbing, and well-finished fiberglass lamination. Up at the bow, the windlass is mounted on a seriously heavy-duty piece of stainless steel that is bolted into place on fiberglass laminates, which are very chunky indeed. It really does look immensely strong. Atlantis uses an unadorned standards list to keep the price low. The basic boat is ready to go, with a full-size forward berth in a bright and spacious cabin with 6-foot 1-inch headroom (and two inches more in the saloon). There is a very workable aft cabin with excellent headroom in the entrance area, an adequate 2 feet 7 inches of clearance over the berth, and a neat and practical head and galley. The 260-hp diesel stern drives are standard, along with all the instrumentation you’ll need for weekend cruises. The sturdy cockpit table seats five, and can be lowered to make a sunbed. The 38 is a boat that comes with few frills, but if you want it loaded, from fancier electronics and teak decks all the way up to air-conditioning and a diesel generator, that’s up to you. Our test boat had all of that, plus the bigger engines (as does ours). Off Savona, Italy, conditions were perfect, with a moderate swell rolling in, augmented by a light chop on top—just the fun side of challenging for a boat this size. And what fun we had. With 17.5 degrees of deadrise aft and plenty more forward, the 38’s hull ironed out the seas with little fuss. The minimum planing speed we managed, around 19 knots, would have been fine for passage-making in these conditions, upwind or down. The only slamming we encountered was deliberate, as we banked off the crests to wrong-foot the hull, but doing so induced no creaks or groans from the structure. We could have carried on all day and the crew would have complained sooner than the boat. Forward sight lines were at times a little marginal: I’m around 6 foot and started my test drive by standing at the helm but ended up sitting, to benefit from the height of the seat. In flatter water close inshore this wasn’t an issue. Running downwind and across the seas we recorded a two-way average maximum of more than 35 knots. In flat conditions, with more finely tuned leg trim, we might have got a little more. The optimum envelope for fuel-efficient cruising is around 26 to 33 knots. Volvo’s excellent DPH Duoprop sterndrives always give an exciting ride, especially when married to plenty of horsepower. The 38’s high-speed turning circle, heeled right over, seemed slightly shorter than its hull length. The steering was light but positive, and we were always in control. Power transmission was virtually instantaneous. Acceleration was lively. The experience was addictive. Atlantis’s new baby proved itself a worthy and slightly more sensible successor to the fabulous Verve, with all the practicalities and comfort of a cruising boat, combined with handling and performance that are seriously fun. Boats International carries predominantly new, pre-owned, and trade-in powerboats and cabin cruisers in inventory. The company recently doubled its showroom capacity which paved way for the introduction of the in-house brokerage & consignment division – all under one roof. Larger vessels and yachts are docked with direct Intracoastal access for easy showings and sea-trials. BOATEXPORT.COM (boatexport.com, inc.) – U.S. premiere provider of boat & yacht export solutions for domestic and international buyers & sellers. Boatexport.com is a full-service export company that is licensed by the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) as a Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC). Boatexport.com has exclusive shipping contracts with some of the world’s largest shipping lines and offers competitive rates on RORO-shipping of boats & yachts worldwide. BOATLOGISTIC.COM (Boat Logistic, Inc.) – Domestic & Continental transport facilitator that provides aggressive rates on inland road transports of boats & yachts. Boat Logistics offers competitive pricing on pre-export and pre-transport preparation of boats & yachts including shrink-wrapping service, shipping cradle construction, CE-certification (through Germanischer Lloyd and CEproof), as well as fumigation of vessels/cradles and de-gassing of refrigerants to comply with international import regulations.

Conveniently incorporated into the transom is a locker with ample space for fenders, lines and cables. From here you can plug your shore power in at the dock and rinse off with a hot and cold water shower to port. The aft cockpit area presents wraparound seating which converts easily to a dining spot or a roomy sun lounge. Within easy reach is a wet bar that has a small counter top and matching sink to keep beverages at hand. A pair of cabinets below provides plenty of storage space and you can opt for a durable stainless steel fridge or ice maker. Behind the Wheel Formula offers one the finest helm stations on the water. She presents flip-up bolster seating for two, a full gamut of instrumentation, and best of all, Lavorsi Marine throttle and transmission controls. When you want go up to the foredeck, access is secure with large steps and a steel handrail. Another nice feature is the concealed and well designed anchor locker with tackle, washdown, and windlass controls, all neatly placed under a sturdy hatch. The Cabin Down three steps through the companion way and you are welcomed into an air condition cabin with 6 foot 4 inches of headroom. An L- shaped, Ultra-leather sofa is to starboard and provides a pair of cherry wood dining tables for meal time or can be used as an additional bunk when you’ve got guests staying aboard. Galley Features Directly to port is a fully equipped galley with a microwave, a flat screen TV and a large work surface. Mounted in the center is a deep sink, which is just next to a concealed, two-burner cooktop. Below the countertop is a roomy refrigerator/ freezer combo, paired with a storage cabinet and drawer bank. Also to port, is a private head compartment that supplies plenty of room to use the vanity sink, VacuFlush toilet and shower. The head is nicely finished with quality materials and chromed fixtures. At the rear of this cruiser is the aft cabin which has a plush, L-shaped settee and enough headroom to sit comfortably without feeling cramped. This area converts into a double berth, but with some unnecessary effort. With or without the bunk made, you can enjoy the large flat screen LCD TV while relaxing. Completing the cabin is an island V berth with several drawers below. Although good for some, tall member of the family may have trouble sleeping in this bunk. (Boattest.com) BOATING WORLD (June, 2005) writes: …Enter the Formula 31 PC. At first glance, it appears to be like so many other express cruisers: pleasing lines and styling that at least remind you of smaller and sportier boats. The challenge is always in the execution. Make enough room inside and the boat can look top-heavy and bloated. Maintain the sensuous curves, and wind up with a cramped interior that won’t silence the little voice because there isn’t enough room inside for extended trips, whether overnight or a long weekend. The Formula has a well-proportioned look, with portholes below the sheerline and what appears to be a minimal cabin hump on the foredeck. Viewed from a distance, you might expect a small cabin that’s dark and uncomfortable. But looks can be deceiving. Ample Storage There’s a galley across from an extended settee for meals. Corian countertops, cherry cabinetry and a stainless steel sink combine for a very stylish galley that also is unusually workable — even practical — for a boat this size. An attractive cherry door hides the installed refer, while a Corian insert covers the two-burner range when not in use, adding extra countertop space for prep work. Overhead cabinets house the microwave oven, as well as a flat-panel LCD TV mounted flush on the face of the center door. Open the door and find storage behind the TV, into which a standard CRT television would be installed. The lounge opposite features a modular table design to feed multiple crewmembers, or stow the tables for a more open feeling when relaxing at the end of the day. More overhead cabinets for storage also house the stereo system and speakers. Even with the tables in place, the Formula’s 11-foot beam makes moving around in the cabin a breeze, even with someone in the galley. The double berth forward is people-sized, with a thick mattress for comfort. Drawers on the face of the berth provide more storage, and a curtain pulls across for privacy while allowing a more open feeling during the day. Mirrored doors open to reveal cedar-lined hanging lockers. Additional storage is under the berth platform, as well as the battery for the optional bow thruster. A U-shaped settee in the aft area quickly converts to a berth for another couple, or makes a private retreat to read or relax. An optional LCD TV can be installed here, making this area a private theater. We opened up all the hatches, pulled up all the seat cushions and opened all the cabinets looking for unfinished surfaces. Even the bilge is gelcoated white, and the only rough spot we found was a piece of glass that is laminated into a limber hole, forcing any water in the compartment to run through the hole into the main bilge. Practical Choices From the pleasing aesthetics to the well thought out and abundant storage throughout, the Formula has the feel of a much more expensive boat. We loved the look and comfort of the interior, and there was nothing negative the voice in our head could say, as it was all so practical. Even the head allows a 6-foot-tall adult to stand and shower without stooping. And a shower curtain pulls around the head to keep the sink and door dry while still providing room to actually use the shower. Too many express cruisers give you a head with barely enough room to stand. Adding a drain and a faucet does not a washroom make; if you’ve gotta have a shower, it might as well be usable. The interior is also as uncavelike as possible thanks in part to three translucent hatches overhead, which let in plenty of natural light. The rich cherry woodwork was offset by the multiple taupe hues in our test boat. Three other color choices are available besides “morning sand” used in this boat, but all of them (sapphire, titanium and silver) use their color palette to enrich the look without condensing the feel of the space. Outside Comfort If your little voice is telling you that all of this interior practicality must come at the expense of usable outdoor entertainment space, stepping onto the deck will silence it in a hurry. Walking through the transom door accesses an aft U-shaped lounge that easily converts to a large sunpad with cushions that have a dedicated storage space. Don’t worry about the door staying open or closed, as a friction lock keeps it in the position you want it. The swim step is large, with a trunk space for storage of fenders, sunpad cushions and the lounge tables and posts. Set up the cockpit however you like; there won’t be a bunch of items rattling around underfoot. One step up is the helm area, with side-by-side seats for the captain and first mate that include bolsters for sitting or leaning. The helm itself has plenty of room for electronics and easy-to-read gauges. Opposite on the port side is another short settee with — surprise — more storage under it. Our test boat had the optional small refer in the mini bar opposite the lounge. An ice-maker can be installed here as well, but the refer seems more practical for keeping cold beverages close at hand. A sink with a faucet hides out of sight under a Corian cover that is hinged with a lift strut. You won’t misplace the cover and it won’t be in the way. More storage lies under the lounge cushions, and there is even a shallow compartment over the engine room. All of these compartments are finished off inside with gleaming gelcoat, and have raised ribs to allow any water from items stored here to run off. The cabin door is solid for privacy when closed, and wide steps with a grabrail lead up to the opening in the windshield for access to the bow. Not practical to open the canvas to go forward? Narrow but passable sidedecks allow an alternate route forward. Showboating So while all this feeds the responsible part of your brain, and you’re ready to “settle down” and accept the idea that leisurely cruising the waterways is a more practical approach, reach over and turn the ignition keys. Twin 6.2 MerCruiser MPI V-8’s power to life, and the separate Livorsi throttle and shift sportboat controls give you complete command of the Bravo 3 drives. You don’t have to give up the enticing gleam of stainless steel props. Nor do you have to give up performance, as our lightly loaded test boat exceeded 50 mph with the wind at its back (this was with full canvas up, and a factory-fresh delivered boat that hadn’t had its final setup by the dealer). Average top speed was 43.5 knots (49.5 mph if you prefer) and cruise speed at 3,400 rpm was 27 knots. Fine-tuning of the drive and tabs may eke out another knot. Don’t worry about keeping up with your less responsible sportboat buddies. Unless they’re running some wicked setup you’ll have no problem cruising alongside them. And at the end of the day they’ll be hanging out on your boat for all the room and socializing. They’ll even want a ride, and be amazed at the sportboat handling of the Formula. It’s so nimble that it doesn’t feel like 31 feet long at speed. The best part may be that with the Imron painted-on graphics, attractive lines, unique anchor overhang on the bow and superior detailing and finish work, they’ll have no idea just how practical (or affordable) the Formula 31 PC really is. That oughta shut up the little voices. At least for the next five years. Larger vessels and yachts are docked with direct Intracoastal access for easy showings and sea-trials.

The boat has nice lines that scream “Take me for a boat ride!” The Features Top side, she offers two separate built-in couches in addition to a two person wide helm seat. The loungers offer plenty of seating along with a cocktail table and wet bar. All of this and she still has easy access to the swim platform. The extended swim platform provides lots of accessibility along with built-in fender holders and two storage lockers for keeping lines and shore hook-ups handy. She even has room for a dingy or personal water craft in back. Functional Layout The helm has good visibility of your surroundings and your gauges. The helm seat has a flip up bolster for enhanced visibility out of the hole or for standing while driving. The cabin can be entered through a slider with a built in screen door which is a nice feature for cool evenings or when the mosquitoes are buzzing around. Climb down a few solid wood stairs and you are ready for relaxing or entertaining. To starboard at the bottom of the stairs is the power distribution panel. The panel has all your breakers, shore power and generator options and digital read outs of water supply and voltages. Stepping Below The cabin has an abundance of natural light from eight port holes, three hatches and a skylight. The galley includes cherry wood cabinets and a two-burner stove, microwave and a matching refrigerator. The counter top is a nice selection of Corian. The cabin floor has a molded fiberglass liner with carpet and a teak and holly sole for the galley. There are two loungers inside that provide plenty of seating for your company to sit and chat, or relax and watch a movie on the flat screen TV. To aft of the cabin is a stateroom with a full size privacy door, not a sliding curtain that you find in most boats. In addition, the aft stateroom also has a separate sink & TV. Power Plant Last, but not least: the engine room. You gain access through a day hatch. When you require complete access there are two power assist engine hatches to give all the room you or a mechanic needs. With the hatches open you had plenty of light and room to service the engines. The engine room was well laid out with neatly secured wiring and accessible batteries. Furthermore, even with the generator there’s still room to spare. Specs Doral’s Elegante for 2005 measures in at 36’10” length overall and has a full 11’11” beam. She requires a clearance below of 3’8” with the outdrives in the up position and weighs in at approximately 15,200 pounds dry. She carries up to 230 gallons of fuel for a nice long weekend of cruising. Her 44 gallon fresh water tank is larger than most I have seen in her class, so water for rinsing off after a swim will not have to be used as sparingly.

The…Sea Ray 320 Sundancer is the result of that effort. Perhaps the most significant change in the new hull is a wider beam to create more space for accommodations. If space was the goal, the 320 Sundancer scored! On deck there is comfortable seating across from the helm to keep the captain involved in the fun. The captain’s seat is on a raised platform, offering excellent visibility even when guests abound. The large crescent shaped settee aft has an easily removable table to convert from an outdoor dining area to a lounge. A filler cushion is also provided to make a huge sun pad. Aft on the port side, a wet bar keep refreshments at arm’s reach. Below decks, the boat’s biggest feature is: it’s big! There are no bulkheads separating the forward or aft berths from the salon. This wide-open layout, combined with ample overhead and effective balance between light colors and warm wood tones give the impression of a boat that is much larger than 35 feet. Natural light provided by two round overhead “skylights” further accentuates the sense of space. The curved settee across form the galley has a removable table that stores under the forward queen-sized bed. In the aft part of the salon, directly under the helm, the U-shaped settee quickly converts to a double bed….Curtains separate the sleeping areas for nighttime privacy. The boat performed well and rode quite comfortably on a rather blustery day. Our test boat had optional 300 horsepower inboards with conventional running gear. Reportedly, the starboard prop was dinged which kept that engine from reaching full RPM. Even so, the boat topped out at 35.4 miles per hour at 4950 RPM. The most economical cruising speed was at 3500 RPM, making 24.8 miles per hour at just under one mile per gallon of gasoline. This gave us a total range of 170 miles. In addition to plenty of elbowroom, the new 320 offers lots of storage above and below decks. While the new boat was designed to maximize comfort and space, she was also given sleek lines and modern styling. The 320 Sundancer is a great looking boat from on-board or on the dock.
