1940 Classic Work boat This retired Commercial Tender Ice Breaker/ Decommissioned USCG MLB was custom built in 1940 in Curtis Bay Maryland in a Coast Guard yard. The last survey was completed in 2009 and she meets all specs for commercial work in the state of Michigan. She is 40 feet in length constructed entirely of galvanized steel. The shell plate is thick weighing 14 tons and she has a 10 ton cargo capacity. The bulk heads are 1/8 thick. She has very generous headroom measuring 7 in the engine room, 65 in the wheel house and 62 in the survivors room. Both the wheel house and the survivors rooms are heated. She is powered by a single 1950 4-71 RA Detroit Diesel engine which was been recently rebuilt with approximately 140 hours since the rebuild. The transmission is an Allison 2.05:1 ratio with a 2 shaft and a bronze RH 3 blade prop 24x21 She has manual steering along with an emergency tiller steering. She holds 200 gallons of fuel and burns only 1.5 gallons of fuel while maintaining a cruising speed of 7 knots. The heavy construction of her hull makes maneuvering in icy conditions a possibility. The heavy duty bits and towing package on the bow allows her to be commissioned as a towing vessel. The stern is also adorned with the same heavy towing bits. The amidships boom makes lifting heavy items aboard an easy task. The roomy heated survivors room has three fixed benches and a table which could be converted to drop down into a very large bed. This room also contains a small galley and a large cooler. The heater is a Dickinson Antarctic heater. There are many extras aboard; a total of four bilge pumps, two electric one engine driven and one manual. There are three fire extinguishers throughout the vessel. She is equipped with a distress signal kit and a carbon monoxide alarm. In the engine room you will find duplex sea strainers and duplex racor filters. The Wheel house is furnished with two chairs. The navigational equipment is up to date and adequate; ICOM VHF, Garmin GPS/chart plotter, Ritchie Helmsman compass. On deck there are heavy rails at bow and stern, search lights, tow lights, deck lights, and shore power. You will also find a horn and ships bell located on deck. There are two fenders, lots of extra line, a second compass and a boat hook. She sits well on the large Danforth anchor and rode and is equipped with a drogue as well. As an added bonus included with the sale of this vessel you will receive all the historical documents, pictures and a book which she has 6 or so dedicated pages. She is a one of a kind vessel and a steal at the price of $29,800.00 The owner also would like to offer her cradle as an add on option priced at an additional $400.00These boat details are subject to contract.Note: Offers on the asking price may be considered.
