This is Mr Gar Wood's personal race boat that he raced Miami to Bimini in 1966 and won!
In 2007 the current owner started his re-fit with a lot of NEW parts and work listed below...2-455 h.p. Caterpillar Engines with 150 hours, New Shafts, Struts, Gears, Longitudinal cockpit deck, Transom, Dash, Head, New 600 gal fuel tanks, New 265 gal water tank, Hull was epoxied by Gar Wood in 1966, New $5,000 Raytheon bottom machine, Top Speed of 42 mph, When idling she uses 2.4 gallons per hour and has a speed of 8 mph, Over $400,000 spent in three year restoration. She is a replica of Gar Wood's 1922 46 ft. Gar Jr. that held a 53.9 mph speed record from Miami to New York and this record was held for 35 years. The owner has researched this yacht and he believes that she was built in 1952 and raced by Gar Wood and his team. Jan Saxton Yacht Documentation in Fort Lauderdale has in her research produced a Title (year built 1965) from Mr Garfield A Wood and Gar Wood Research Division.
