This was custom built as the U-3 Unlimited Hydroplane hull #9703. Campaigned from 1997 - 2002 as the Allison V12 piston powered U-3 Cooper Racing out of Evansville, Indiana. This hull was semi-retired in 2002 and kept as the back-up hull for U-3 Cooper Racing until 2009 when U-22 Webster Racing purchased it and converted it from Allison V12 piston power to Lycoming T55L7C Turbine power. The U-22 team made numerous upgrades including the engine and gearbox area as well as updating rigging and hull tuning upgrades. The Unlimited Hydroplane rules allow piston powered hulls to weigh less than their turbine hull counterparts. This hull was built extra strong and ended up weighing closer to a turbine hull weight than a piston hull weight. Because of this generous/sturdy build she affectionately took on the nickname of Tubby. This hull was built strong and should last for many more years. The air-trap, also known as tunnel, was built approximately 92" wide which was wider than the average Unlimited hull for the time and still a state-of-the-art width for today's standards. This hull was last raced in Doha, Qatar in 2010. Today she looks great as a display boat on a trailer as an advertising platform. The paint has some flaws and a few bumps and scrapes, but most people are so in awe seeing one of these that they don't even notice the flaws. A really cool thing about this hull is that it has the ability to be re-fitted with piston or with turbine power. There are very few hulls that can be, and have been, rigged both ways. I purchased this as a display boat on a trailer and more recently sold that trailer. The trailer pictured is not included in a lower negotiated price, but I will be willing to include it if you pay the Buy It Now price. Some of the hardware required to get the boat running again has been removed as it is not needed to display. If you purchase the boat, and wish to get it running again, I can get you the hardware needed for a lot less than it would cost to buy new. Again the price listed is as pictured, less trailer. I will include rear vertical wings to complete the look, but you will need to assemble and install. This boat is located in Indiana and is being sold as/is where/is intended for local pick up. If you buy the trailer, which is only available with boat Buy It Now, it may need paint and some basic maintenance. It has good tires and useable lighting, functioning hydraulic tilt rams, and it should easily get you home if you decide to purchase with boat. Delivery is not offered for this item, but if you Buy It Now, and pay in full before delivery, I may be able to get you a reasonable quote for delivery. I pulled this trailer back from southern California 2,400 miles with no issues. It can be pulled with a heavy duty dually pickup, or more easily with a box truck race hauler. Again this auction is for the display boat only. Again does not include hardware, gearbox, turbine, shafting, propeller, rudder and other items if you plan to run her again. If you buy her I will gladly get you a reasonable price on hardware and drivetrain should you choose to get her going again. A great display boat at a great price. If you're interested in owning this Unlimited Hydroplane then feel welcome to ask me any questions that pertain to this auction. If you're curious why I'm selling this one, I have another one I'm planning to use as a display boat so I want this one to go to someone new who can enjoy it. Thanks for reading and thanks in advance should you be the winning buyer.
