Designed by Lock Crowther, the rounded hulls increase speed while the dagger boards improve upwind capability. Under high wind conditions Solstice has reached 19.5 knots with the spinnaker, 17.5 kts using the jib alone, and 14.5 kts on a beam reach. Solstice was repowered in 2008 with larger 30HP Volvo D1-30 engines and 130S sail drives which allow her to comfortably motor at 7.5-7.8 knots while burning 1.5 gal/hr total. All electronics were replaced and upgraded in 2011. Raymarine C130W and C90W displays present chart plotter, fish finder/depth, radar, satellite weather, wind/speed/depth/navigation data, and AIS information. Dual depth transducers, 1 in each hull, make finding the channel easy in critical shallow water areas. The extra-large cockpit is completely covered by a walk on hard top canopy. It can be completely enclosed or left open as desired. All halyards and sheets are fed to the cockpit making single handing a breeze. In each hull there is an aft head with electric flushing toilet, Electroscan waste processor, sink, and shower sump pump. Forward of each head are mid and bow cabin/berths separated by doors.
