The 28 Mariner is a versatile cruiser that offers the comfort of a large interior living space, a nice sized cockpit and a bridge with enough room for a small crowd. One of Carver’s most popular models during her production years, the Carver 28 is what a lot of brokers mean when they talk about a lot of boat for the money. She was offered in “Voyager” and “Mariner” configurations, the difference being the choice of interior floorplans. The Mariner layout has the galley and head forward, whereas in the Voyager they’re located aft, just inside the salon door. Notably, the Voyager had a lower helm and the Mariner didn’t. Both models have plenty of seating (for a 28-footer) in the salon, the head compartments are surprisingly large, and the cockpit is roomy enough to handle a couple of deck chairs or light-tackle anglers. The flybridge on this boat is huge with seating for six and a table that converts into a full-width sun pad. Additional features include a bow pulpit, transom door, reasonably wide side decks, and a swim platform. Cruising speed of this model is around 18 knots with a top speed of about 26 knots.
