Competition has also taught Fountain the value of low-speed maneuverability and a balanced ride at cruising speeds. Inside, the quest for record setting fish has resulted in a dash layout that lets the captain monitor vital engine functions at a glance. Competition is also responsible for the 29's one-piece unitized construction process, which spares no expense in the pursuit of a strong, lightweight laminate that is fast, fuel efficient and built to withstand the offshore torture test. Rigging extras such as 1200-gph bilge pumps, flexguard-protected wiring looms, foamed-in fuel tanks and explosion-proof battery switches all derive from lessons learned in the quest for world championships. Tournament competition also ingrained in Fountain the need to sweat even the smallest details. Evidence the 29's hideaway stern cleats, rocket launchers, deck-mounted stainless steel rod holders and a half-tower with a three-piece enclosure. Fishermen also know the value of a large livewell located above deck for easy access, so Fountain makes it standard. A twin 180-quart insulated fish box with overboard drain is also standard. The 29 accommodates storage needs with sliding compartments on either side of the swivel bucket seats and space in the forward cuddy, which includes fluorescent lighting, rod storage, a full galley and a convertible dinette.
