1946 Wheeler Sunlounge This beautiful wooden cruiser was built in Whitestone, New York. The Wheeler Sunlounge model was the post WWII Cadillac of yachts. Built to military specifications, but with all the amenities of its time! She has 9" oak frames on center with 1/4" cedar with 3/4 mahogany planksover top. This is a very solid East Coast boat built for rough seas, with a roomy aft cockpit and beautiful teak decks.Fiberglass fly bridge and forward decks with new awl grip non-skid. Fresh varnish on mostof the exterior Mahogany (some areas still need to be completed). New custom swim step withladder built and installed this summer and all new stainless guards. Powered by good running twin Chrysler 318 engines, new alternators, 12v starters, rebuilt carbs, topend rebuild STBD engine, 32V DC power with two new battery banks (2016). The new Outback 32V charger is installed and hooked up (the inverter still needs to be wired into the system). Propane cook-top with custom counter and tile back splash. Updated flooring in the galley and vee-berth, fresh interior paint throughout! Lots of time and money has been spent restoring this timeless classic. A little more work and this could be a real one of a kind show boat! The Wheeler is a great family with plenty of room for guests, but small and maneuverable enough it can still be handled by one or two people. The current owner is a shipwright and has hauled her out 3 times in the last 2 years. Most recently it was hauled out, painted and new zincs were put on in September of 2016. For those literature buffs, Ernest Hemingway's boat Pilar was also a Wheeler. Several of Hemingway's books were influenced by time he spent on his Wheeler, most notably, "The Old Man and the Sea" and "Islands in the Stream".
