William Lapworth from the 1960s to the 1980s. The Costa Mesa, California, the headquartered company was founded in 1957, among the earliest of all-fiberglass, mass-production sailboat builders. Although the brand has been out of production for some time, the existing fleet is still substantially active in racing and cruising. Nearly 18,000 boats were built under the Cal brand name. The Jensen-Lapworth collaboration resulted in some amazingly competitive racer/cruiser sailboats, the most famous of which is the Cal 40. Jack Jensen sold his company to Bangor Punta Corporation in 1968 and if we include all the later takeovers, Cals continued to be built until 1989. Reason for selling is retiring from sailing.
Per the owner: -- The engine is not running and has not been run for several years. (Please see below for details.) -- The last haul out was in 2010. -- The standing rigging has not been replaced in over 20 years and will need to be inspected or possibly replaced for any serious sailing. This will be a recommendation in any survey. Originally a yawl, the owner has removed the original Sitka Spruce mizzen mast. The mast could easily be replaced and the mizzen sail and mizzen winch are currently in storage. The main mast is the original Sitka Spruce wood. The jib is a rolling furler. -- The exact age and condition of sails are unknown. -- Winches are all working well. -- While the cockpit retains its original teak, the top deck teak has been covered in a rubber sealant, which can easily be removed by a new owner who wishes to refurbish it. -- The propeller shaft has been secured with epoxy. -- Both bilge pumps are working well and checked regularly. -- Everything in the galley is working well with the exception of the fridge/freezer ice boxes which will need a new compressor. There is a working stand-alone 3/4 size fridge and freezer in the guest cabin. -- The aft head is connected but not used. -- The forward head has all connections in place but no marine toilet installed. -- Water tanks are fine; an overflow valve might be beneficial to a new owner. -- The hot water heater has not been used in several years - the condition is unknown. -- All cabin lights and AC outlets are working properly. Seller's Recommendations: -- All engine connections need to be replaced. -- All thru-hulls need to be checked at the next haul-out. -- Install a dripless shaft at the next haul-out. -- Replace transmission plate on an inboard diesel engine. -- Replace overflow valves on both water tanks ENGINE INFO: The original engine has not been started or used in several years. It was diagnosed as needing a new transmission plate, which is a small, cheap part to replace but difficult to access. The connections will most likely need to be replaced. It is unknown if the two starters are working. Yearly buoy runs are currently done using a 25HP outboard engine. The last buoy run was in August 2020. Any new buyer will most likely want to completely replace the engine, continue to use an outboard, or reconfigure with an electric setup. She is being sold "as is, where is" with the possibility of an in-water survey and/or hull dive inspection but no water trial or haul-out survey is possible due to the engine not working. Forward head holding tank has not yet been installed because it has not been needed. The forward head is working but is overboard pump only. - The microwave is older and will most likely need to be replaced sometime soon if used regularly. The seller has all original manuals and all maintenance documentation. Stock #222815 Beautiful Center Cockpit Sloop - Perfect Liveaboard for HI - Many Upgrades Including Marine AC & Heat! READY FOR OFFERS! REASONABLE OFFERS WILL BE CONSIDERED - MAKE AN OFFER!!! This stunning Morgan 44 Catalina Center Cockpit Masthead Sloop is in excellent condition and ready to go right now for inter-island sailing or full-time liveaboard! She is a wonderful example of true pride of ownership. The photos reflect her true, current condition and you will not be disappointed. This is a very impressive vessel!!! *** The slip may be transferable for active duty or retired military with an accepted application. *** Below deck, the main salon is clean, spacious and brightly decorated. The dinette area consists of port and starboard settees with a center-line mounted folding table. The port settee converts into a double sleeper for two guests, while the starboard sleeps one. Forward of the salon is the v-berth with dual access headroom with a marine head, sink, and mirror. To starboard mid-ship, the galley is very spacious and well equipped with plenty of counter space and storage. Along with a NovaCool refrigerator, there is also an extra-large 12V DC icebox, dual basin sink with hot and cold pressurized water, a Hillerange gimbaled 2-burner propane stove with oven, and an Emerson microwave. Directly across from the galley is the navigation station, which would also work well as an onboard office. The companionway aft of the navigation station leads to the engine room and main stateroom. The main stateroom has a full-sized double berth with recently upgraded memory foam mattress and an en suite private headroom with a marine head, sink, vanity, mirror, and bathtub/shower. The woodwork and cabinetry are very impressive and in excellent condition. All of the countertops, sink basins, and faucets in the galley and both heads were replaced in 2014/2015. There is also teak and holly sole flooring and LED lighting throughout. With seven opening hatches in the deck, 12 opening ports, and two fixed windows in the cabin, there is plenty of natural light and airflow below deck. Anyone wanting to continue to live aboard in Hawaii or just relax at the dock will appreciate the Dometic Marine air conditioning system, which keeps this beauty VERY COOL, easily maintaining 66 - 68 degrees F during the hottest days of summer. With the full-length Sunbrella awning up, it alone can easily keep the boat's interior 10 degrees cooler! The Dometic Marine Air unit also has a heating mode if desired. The 44HP Yanmar diesel has low hours, starts easily, and runs smoothly. It's in remarkably good condition, especially for its age. The most recent diesel inspection was in 2018. The desirable center-cockpit design has ample cockpit seating and storage as well as a spacious aft deck which would be perfect for a large sun pad. She is sailed regularly and all sails, standing rigging, most of the running rigging, sail covers, dodger, bimini, etc. appear to be in good to very good condition. All lifelines were recently replaced with the hardware being lifted and resealed. The deck is very solid with no soft spots and the non-skid paint looks practically brand new. Significant upgrades since 2015 (+/- $40k Value) include: -- Dometic Marine Air Conditioning system -- Full Boat Awning, Sunbrella Canvas Sun Shade -- Memory Foam Mattress in the Aft Stateroom -- All Safety Lines Replaced; Hardware Lifted and Resealed -- Installed Galvanic Isolator -- Added Inboard Shore Power Panel With 2 Shore Power Circuit Breakers -- Installed Second 30 Amp Shore Power -- MasterVolt PowerCombi pure sine wave inverter charger 50A/1200W -- New Water Heater -- Entire Steering Line Assembly Replaced -- Engine Control System on Helm and down to diesel Replaced -- Diesel Drive Shaft and Propeller Replaced -- New House and Starter Batteries (2 West Marine 4D AGM batteries for the house bank in 2019, 2 West Marine group 27 for the engine start bank in 2019) -- Fuel and Fuel Tank Cleaned -- Fuel Gauge Installed -- Fuel Tank Access Ports Added -- Magma Grill included (not currently installed). Has some spots rusting but works. -- TV (Flat Screen) with great pivot/mounting system. There are two freshwater tanks holding a total of 215 gallons. There is also a hand pump filtration system in the galley (the filter will need to be replaced.) There is also a direct-connect water hose connection with an over-pressure regulator, which can bypass the water tanks to directly use shore water, meaning tanks do not always need to be refilled. The condensate drain sump for the Air Conditioning unit also serves as a secondary bilge pump. All of the thru-hull valves are Marelon valves, which is significant because Marelon does not corrode. Extras include: -- Several miscellaneous spares, including engine mounts and window seals/gaskets for all hatches/windows. -- Some spare mooring/anchoring lines and sheets/halyards. -- All life jackets and pillows/cushions on board. -- Sunbrella covers for rails and winches topside as well as the helm. -- Cockpit cushions (rarely used.) The headroom is approximately 6'2"-6'4" throughout. Please Note: -- There is no electric windlass; The anchor system is on a roller. -- There is no bow thruster. -- There is no GPS. -- The last haul-out and bottom job was in 2015. Although she is due for another haul-out, the bottom is cleaned and checked every month and is in good condition for its age. The zincs are replaced every 3-5 months. -- The standing rigging has not been replaced in the past 10 years, which will come up as a recommendation on any survey. For near coastal and inter-island sailing, it has been deemed strong and sufficient. For any long-distance voyages, this might want to be inspected more thoroughly and possibly replaced. *** The owner is also open to delivering the boat to neighboring islands or outside of Hawaii with a per diem and expenses covered. Please inquire for details.*** Please inquire for a FREE Boat History Report! Reason for selling is relocation.
Pride of ownership is evident throughout as the owners currently live aboard and sail her regularly. They are now looking for a larger vessel. The 75hp Yanmar 4JH4-TE 2007 has approximately 935 hours. In March, 2018 the engine was serviced. The impeller and dual fuel filters were replaced. The most recent haul out was in December, 2017 with two coats of ablative paint, zinc replaced, prop inspected and painted and the cutlass bearing replaced. The mast and mast base were refurbished in Spring 2017 with all new marine wiring for anchor light, navigation, AIS and rebuilt spreaders. The instrument panel inside the companionway was also replaced in 2018 as well as the PYI packless shaft seals (prop shaft and rudder post.) The non-skid deck coating is in very good condition. The navy canvas cockpit cushions are also in very good condition. Overall, this vessel is in excellent, turn-key condition for her age an usage. 1980 Peterson Sloop A racer/cruiser designed by Doug Peterson. The boat has been continually kept up and improved. A new diesel engine was installed in 2008. It is a three cylinder vetus/mitsubishi with 27hp. This is a vast improvement over the Atomic 4 gasoline engine that came with the boat. There is a double berth in the forward cabin, a double quarter berth aft, and three single berths in the main cabin. There is a deep stainless steel sink in the galley and a large insulated ice box. There are foot pumps for the water in the galley and the head. The boat sails well to a phrf rating of 129. We have won the Molokai return race of Kaneohe Yacht Club the last two years.
