The 1961 Huckins 60' is a true endeavor with the passion for a romantic elegance restored to timeless beauty. Innovators who changed the way things were done, showed the impossible to be possible and whose legacies are integral within the foundations of what is today taken for granted, whether it be the first practical and affordable private jet, a revolutionary hull design that gave a smooth, fast and dry ride like none before, or designing the earliest planning hulls including the legendary PT boat and later among the first pioneers to sheath wooden hulls in fiberglass. For over nine decades and several generations of pleasure boat evolution and refinement Huckins has been there all along, still in the family, still innovating, still preserving, still striking the right balance between that which offers new possibilities and that which assures known qualities. Possibilities such as lighter weight, tighter construction tolerances or greater performance and efficiency, qualities such as reputation, durability and classic good looks. As is always the case among those who remain in business, let alone in the top tier for generations, it requires walking the high wire between the radical and the rational, a balancing act perhaps only made possible by generations of family ownership, a series of steady hands on the tiller sharing a common gene pool. Which brings us to the subject vessel at hand, the 1961 Huckins Linwood sixty footer, if not the finest example of the brand certainly one of them. Purchased first as an object of love by the current owner, she then became a mission and eventually an obsession, and just as it takes a special breed of innovator to give birth to a classic, it is often the case that love and obsession, not to mention sufficient means, are necessary attributes among those who wish to preserve them. Thus the mission became the total restoration of the vessel to her finest, few expenses spared, no lack of sand in the hourglass. The entire exterior hull was stripped of glass to the bare wood, completely refastened and then re-covered with West System Epoxy and 18oz bi-axial cloth. The keel and chine were reinforced with four layers of cloth, and all the topsides and decking with 10oz cloth. The structural necessities having been addressed, the more remarkable aspect of the project was restoring the power configuration to original. You see, among her past interesting owners was a drug running operation that doubtless appreciated her fine seaworthy qualities and speed, so much so that they reconfigured her to straight inboard with a dummy fuel tank sealed with contraband abaft, then loaded her topsides with bales of marijuana and abandoned her off the coast of Florida... whereupon the Coast Guard seized her and impounded her conveniently on land where the clever villains were able to sneak in under the cover of darkness, cut open the fake tank and recover the real contraband... yet another example of innovation by those obviously at the top of their game. So, out went that renegade power package and in came a pair of 12-V71 TI Diesel The mission is to reconstruct, restore and refit her as classic vessel to cruise 20 knots operating around 29 gallons/hour. To achieve this performance over Fifteen thousand hours highly skilled professionals completed the following: Exterior Hull Stripped to bare wood outside Entire hull re-fastened and covered with West System Epoxy (18 oz. bi-axel cloth) Keel and Chine reinforced with additional four layers of 18 oz. bi-axel cloth. Top sides and deck two layers 10 oz cloth and West-System Epoxy Two Detroit 12-V71 TI Diesel engines, 650 hp, 1980. Frame out rebuild 2005 (approx. 800 hours) Two Walter Heavy Duty V-drives Two four-blade 34 x 36 medium cup propellers (2011) All new half shafts, couplings, etc. Northern lights generator in soundbox (2010) Cruisair 24,000 BTU AC/heat (2005) Wiring (Anchor) replaced (2009) Plumbing (Pex) replaced (2009) Water Heater 40 gallon (2009) Engine room fire extinguishing system (2010) Reason for selling is building a residence in florida.

Believed to have served only three owners, this highly original, built-to-order classic mixes 440 cubic inches of RB V8 with classy pearl paint, a gorgeous Hawaiian Monkey-Pod hull, vintage tuck-and-roll upholstery and an original custom trailer. Jerry Barron of Hallett Boats When the head of the company that created your boat is quoted as saying he would've kept the hull for himself, you know you have one awesome ride! This 1964 Hallett Barron is a built-to-order classic that was 1 of only 100 produced and is believed to be 1 of only 4 still in existence. According to the folks at Hallett Boats, the vessel stayed with its original owner until his passing, and was eventually reacquired from that owner's children. As mentioned, Hallett then flipped the boat to its second owner, a California man. Some years later, when that California man decided to list the craft on eBay, the current owner spotted the listing but decided against a purchase. Then, about six months after the listing had expired, a deal was struck and the boat took up residence in Charlotte, North Carolina. HULL Officially classified as an 18-foot Hallett Drag Boat that's built around a Barron flat-bottom hull, this awesome craft is an immaculate, highly original cruiser that's been lightly freshened as needed. Since 2006, the boat has been regularly stored in a private, climate-controlled garage and, judging by its stellar appearance, probably hasn't seen severe weather since its 1964 debut. An original, never restored hull is crafted from rare Hawaiian Monkey-Pod wood that's completely cold-molded in a sturdy fiberglass shell. That 'glass is dressed in snazzy Pearl White and Metal Flake Red aesthetics. And overall, the boat is so clean that it could've freshly breached a 51-year-old time capsule. Inside, simplicity is the name of the game. An original Mahogany dash anchors an original Jones Motrola tachometer and original Stewart Warner accessory gauges in the sheen of original varnish. Flawless tuck-and-roll upholstery perfectly matches the boat's stylish paint. A solid floor frames a small forward/neutral shifter, a vintage Hall-Craft throttle pedal and an inconspicuous kill switch. And the driver navigates water through a classy Teak steering wheel. ENGINE That mention of 'simplicity' brings to mind another buzzword: 'speed'. And, thanks to the boat's 440 cubic inch RB V8, its proud new owner will certainly enjoy both 'speed' and 'simplicity'! More popular than the famed Hemi, Chrysler's stalwart 440 was designed to be the automotive industry's best combination of comfort, reliability and big block performance. Oxygen whips from stylized California Custom Accessories air cleaners to big Carter carburetors, which ride on a coated Weiand intake. At the front of that intake, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor spins between a mild cam and thick MSD Super Conductor plug wires. At the sides of those wires, polished Mickey Thompson valve covers perfectly complement over the transom tail pipes and water-cooled Glenwood exhaust manifolds. And a high quality Casale V-drive, threaded through a chrome driveshaft safety ring, keeps everything in motion. Naturally, the Metal Flake monster sips fuel through braided fluid lines, which are piped to a duo of manually switched gas tanks. The aforementioned shifter controls an in-and-out transmission that's devoid of reverse. And polished Nicson covers, a reproduction MoPar battery and aircraft-quality steering cables complete the old school look. TRAILER A prestigious trophy just doesn't pop without a cool display. In the case of this memento, that display is a custom trailer that, as far as we can tell, appears to be original equipment. Predictably, the rig is covered in the same Pearl White paint that adorns the boat's hull. Everything rides on painted steel wheels, which lap a quartet of 6.50-15 BF Goodrich Silvertown whitewalls around dent-free trim rings and smooth center caps. And, as you might expect, the trailer has lived the majority of its life stored indoors. If you get the impression that we've grown particularly fond of this Hallett, you'd be exactly right! Custom LED lighting including under water lights, dock lights and in the love seats of the custom interior. Bottom seats are removable for more standing room and there is plenty of storage under the seats in which to stash your stuff. Also noted is a custom wind deflector, canvas top, depth sounder with alarm, low oil pressure and engine temperature alarms.
